CURiOSITY
What Many Doctors
Think about Holistic Medicine?
In the last several years, when I consulted with orthodox medicine doctors, I found it interesting how, when they learned I was a licensed acupuncturist/hypnotist, opened up to what they were going through themselves. One urologist asked what she could take for her cold symptoms. When I suggested a homeopathic, she asked where to buy it. Another shared she had just returned from Mexico and had severe diarrhea. She was interested in how I got into acupuncture and what made me decide to become a hypnotherapist. I recall one doctor who told me his daughter has chronic fatigue syndrome, could I send him information that might help her?
And most recently, one physical therapist asked for my cards and told me about her mother who was having gall bladder issues where the medical intervention was quite harsh. I suggested her mom try apple cider vinegar in a little apple juice before meals. Lastly, just a couple of weeks ago, a male doctor wanted to know what books I read about quantum physics because he wants to learn more to help himself.
Chances are these professionals would not feel comfortable sharing their personal health issues with the average person. But inside many, there is a curiosity and deep desire to know more about natural healing methods. And in the above cases, they felt safe sharing because practitioners educated in the healing arts are good listeners and most know how to develop rapport while keeping good boundaries.
