late summer: The Forgotten Season
I noticed a change in seasons a week ago. No longer was the summer sun beating down like a hot grill, it felt more like a toasty oven. And a few yellow leaves were floating down, a reminder that fall is not far off.
Late summer is the harvest time, when the farmers markets are overflowing with squash, tomatoes and the ever abundant zucchini. Late summer reminds us to give thanks for the abundance in our life. But often people at this time of year go into worry mode–fretting that they think they don’t have enough resources.
Worry brings with it digestive issues such as bloating. Some people, when they are focused on lack, overeat and gain weight. Late summer is the season of the earth of which we are a part. If our inner terrain is out of balance, all sorts of symptoms can arise such as low mood, anxiety and malabsorption.
Every season brings it with its upside and downside. I teach people to live in harmony with the seasons. There is a special tune up for each season. The meridians/organs that are tonified during late summer are the stomach and spleen.Call Alexis Rotella, Licensed Acupuncturist in Greensboro, now taking new patients. (336) 676-4555
