Feeling the “Fire” in summer

Summer is the season that represents the fire element. The meridians associated with fire/joy are the heart, pericardium, small intestine and triple warmer. If any of those organs/meridians are out of synch, we may not feel like socializing or communing with others. Feeling sad in the summer is a downer. It can be a drag putting on a smiley face when joy is just not there to support us.

The small intestine meridian is called the sorter. It helps us process thoughts, decisions, what we take in that nurtures us including food. When it’s not having a good time, a person can binge on chocolate or potato chips. They may not do what’s good for them or others. Old habits may be on the front burner. We know exercise is good for us but we go into couch potato mode and stay there for days or longer. Then slide into misery because we gained five pounds.

The triple warmer is an invisible meridian that is responsible for our ability to network. Dr. John Diamond discovered years ago that it rules the thyroid, which is responsible for heat metabolism as well as feeling hopeful. Donna Eden, energy medicine teacher, discovered t it’s the channel that is over stimulated in most people, keeping us in fight or flight, when it’s not necessary. Who can dispute that we live in a world that is overheated, with road rage and people at each other’s throats? Not to mention the attacks that go on on social media platforms.

Five Element acupuncture and energy medicine balances the fire meridians, calms us down yet enables us to be friendly and genuinely open to one another. Don’t we all feel like it’s worth getting up in the morning, to look forward to the day in front of us? To be friendly and helpful toward others? Or to just have fun?
